Overall Tips & Warnings
*There are only a few different iPod models, but they vary in terms of their capabilities. Each model also has several varieties which differ in their storage capacity.
*All models except for the iPod shuffle have a display screen. The shuffle model is less user-friendly and has a relatively low storage capacity but it is a great option if you’re on a tight budget.
*The iPod nano and the iPod mini are the first models released with a screen. They have a storage capacity of 1 to 6 gigabytes and have a longer battery life than the iPod shuffle.
*The more sophisticated models are slightly larger than the shuffle, and feature a display screen as well as longer battery life. These also have a larger storage capacity, of up to 40 gigabytes.
*So-called fourth and fifth generation iPods have some advanced features—these cost significantly more than the shuffle but they’re also more user-friendly and versatile.
*The fourth-generation iPod is the iPod photo, which can store images and display them in color on its screen, and has a storage capacity of up to 60 gigabytes.
*The fifth-generation iPod has a video player and storage capacity of 30 to 80 gigabytes.
*To prevent future problems, make sure you find out as much as possible about the iPod and the store you’re buying from before purchase, including the store’s returns policy and the warranty on the item.

Gemei intros X590 portable media player

Though we haven't seen anything notable from Gemei in quite some time, the X590 is a solid choice to hit back with. Equipped with a 2.5-inch LCD, this portable media player supports MP3, AVI, DAT, WMA, APE, FLAC and FLV formats (among others), and apparently, it can also support emulation. Interestingly, we're not told exactly how much storage this thing comes with, nor if it supports expansion via flash cards, but it's got plenty of glossy black and chrome if that's your bag. Look for it sometime next week for a currently undisclosed price.

Sony Mylo 2 Gets Leaked?

QJ.net published a picture back in October that sheds some light on the Sony Mylo 2 FCC rumor we showed you yesterday. This older shot shows off the device's front side, which meshes with what we saw in the FCC docs—namely, a sliding body with rounded sides and a flattened top and bottom. We know a bit more about the Mylo than what's shown in qj.net's picture, but we can't comment on it yet. If this really is the Mylo, it shows an interesting design turn from the bulgy-looking first gen.

Rumor: BMW Dropping iDrive For Apple Compatibility?

Autospies has a juicy rumor on BMW, iDrive, the iPod and an apparent dropping of one standard in favor of another. Their tipster tells them that BMW will drop the iDrive system—which has gotten not-so-fabulous reviews—in favor of an interface that they've collaborated with Apple on. It's unclear exactly what type of UI this would be, or whether it would allow the iPhone/iPod to dock into the car much like the recent Land Rover LRX Concept.

Creative's 32GB Zen finally on sale

A few weeks ago Creative confirmed that the 32GB Zen was coming, but sadly would not see the light of day till the second quarter of 2008. Well, it appears that Creative's US site is showing the 32GB Zen in stock and available for shipment. For some reason the Zen product page doesn't show the 32GB model in stock when selected in the drop down menu; but when placed in the cart, it shows that it is indeed available. So if you were planing on layin-down $349.99 on the largest capacity Zen when it was finally available, your time has come.

Oh, and as a bonus you might actually be able to get this in time for Christmas, if you order soon.

Apple launch of Leopard system its best ever

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - The launch of Apple Inc's (AAPL.O: Quote, Profile, Research) latest operating system, Leopard, was its best ever, a research group said on Monday.

When comparing the first full month of sales of Apple Mac OS 10.5 "Leopard" (November 2007) to the first full month of sales for Mac OS 10.4 "Tiger" (May 2005), dollar volume for Leopard was up 32.8 percent and unit volume up 20.5 percent, NPD Group Inc said in a statement.

Apple, maker of the Macintosh computer, the iPod digital music player and the iPhone smartphone, started selling Leopard on October 25, after a four-month delay due to the company's work on the iPhone.

The new version of Apple's OS X software costs $129 for a single user and $199 for a "family pack" that can be installed on as many as five computers in a single household.

New features include a file back-up feature called "Time Machine," improvements to e-mail and instant messaging, and the ability to preview documents or files without starting up a separate program, as well as quick access to other computers on a home or an office network.

While the increases in dollar and unit volume can partially be attributed to going on sale during November -- a key month for consumer shopping -- and the growth in the number of Apple retail stores, NPD said the figures show that Apple has found the right formula for rolling out new versions of Mac operating systems.

Leopard is the sixth version in as many years, a fact the Cupertino, California-based concern is quick to contrast with Microsoft Corp (MSFT.O: Quote, Profile, Research), which went more than five years between new versions of its Windows operating system.

Microsoft's Windows Vista became broadly available early this year and comes in several versions that cost between $100 and $260, according to the company's Web site.

How to DJ with an iPod

Introduction
iPod DJing has become popular in unconventional bars and clubs all over the world since 2004, when club owners began setting up iPod mixing booths and inviting patrons to perform their favourite tracks. The process is simple, and because it is currently impossible to beat match with an iPod, you need no musical skill, or DJing experience, to become tonight’s Mixmaster!

Instructions
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Things You'll Need
Mixing Desk
Two iPods
A Large track library
Speakers
Steps

1
Step One
Plug two iPods into the “line-in” connections of a mixer.

2
Step Two
If you plan to mix vinyl records with IPod music it is also possible to use a special IPod DJ mixer, that is set-up to incorporate IPods AND decks.

3
Step Three
Choose a song on one iPod and set the cross fader so that this tune is playing through the DJ speakers.

4
Step Four
Choose the following song on the other iPod. To line-up the next track, press the play/pause button twice in quick succession, so that the track is paused at the very start of the song.

5
Step Five
As the song being played through the speakers comes to an end, lower the output volume on the mixer and switch the cross fader to the second iPod. Quickly un-pause the lined-up track and increase the output volume.

6
Step Six
Forget about beatmatching. It is currently impossible for iPod DJ’s to beatmatch, (increase or decrease the speed of songs so that their tempo’s match) although the technology is being developed!

7
Step Seven
Choose your songs wisely. iPod DJ’s are rated almost entirely on their tune selection rather than their skills with DJ equipment.

8
Step Eight
Tap the center button on your IPod twice in quick succession to “scratch” the current track. Doing this means the music backs up a fraction and can have some interesting effects!

Tips & Warnings
*IPods don’t scroll through tracks second-by-second but tend to skip along instead. The inaccuracy of the IPod means that seriously good “drop-ins” are very hard to achieve; forget them!
*iPod DJing is still in its infancy but is expected to grow. Get a foothold in the scene early!

How to Troubleshoot an iPod

Introduction
Apple has made a list of things to do to troubleshoot an iPod, which they call the 5 R’s. Those 5 R’s are as follows: reset, retry, restart, reinstall and restore. Following these steps will help out with many common operating problems that you might encounter using an iPod. Some other things to check include file formats and settings. Follow these steps to troubleshoot an iPod.

Instructions
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Things You'll Need
iPod
Steps

1
Step One
Reset the iPod. To do this, turn the iPod on and then off. Push and hold the “Menu” and “Center” buttons for a slow count of 6 or until the Apple logo shows up on the view screen.

2
Step Two
Retry your connection to your desktop computer using a different USB port or even a different USB cable. Many sync problems occur because the cable has been plugged into an older USB port, which does not allow fast data transfer.
3
Step Three
Restart the computer that you are using to sync with the iPod. Part of troubleshooting an iPod is discovering if the problem lies with your computer.

4
Step Four
Reinstall iTunes with the latest software available for iPod. Newer software may have a fix for the problem that you are experiencing.

5
Step Five
Restore the iPod to its factory settings. This wipes out everything that you have put on the device, including files, settings and pictures.
6
Step Six
Check the format that a song is saved in. The iPod cannot play files encoded with WMA, MPEG Layer 1 or MPEG Layer 2 formats.

Buy from Amazon - Archos 605 Wi-Fi 160 GB

Overall Tips & Warnings
*Make sure you have the right hardware to do the things that you want to do. For example, if you want to import photos to your iPod, you will need an iPod Camera Connector.
*Make sure that your computer has the minimum requirements or better to run iTunes and use an iPod. The most important component, outside of iTunes, is a USB 2.0 port, which allows the iPod to communicate with the computer faster.
*If you have been syncing your iPod with a Windows-based computer and want to begin syncing with a Mac, you will need to restore the iPod, which erases everything in the portable music player’s memory.

How to Test an IPod Battery

Introduction
IPods are a music lover's dream come true. It seems incredible that so much music can fit on such a tiny device. Music fans spend hundreds of dollars for these little miracle devices, but nothing will upset the iPod owner more than a battery that no longer holds a charge. Try the technique below to test the endurance of your iPod battery.

Instructions
Difficulty: Moderate
Steps

1
Step One
Reset your iPod by sliding the "Hold" switch on, then back to "Off."

2
Step Two
Press simultaneously the "Play/Pause" button and "Menu" buttons for up to 10 seconds. Release when the Apple/iPod logo shows on the screen. Repeat if necessary.

3
Step Three
Turn on your iPod. Verify that there is at least one song of average length on the device.

4
Step Four
Update the device to the latest iPod software.

5
Step Five
Completely charge the iPod, either with an AC adapter or by a USB cable attached to the computer. Disconnect charging cable.

6
Step Six
Turn your iPod on. Go to its main menu. Select "Settings-Repeat." Continue through "Repeat" options until "All" is highlighted. Click "All" to select it.

7
Step Seven
Select "Settings-EQ." Click on "Off" to select it.

8
Step Eight
Attach earbuds or headphones. Choose a song/album to play. The song will play repeatedly until the battery is exhausted.

9
Step Nine
Record the time that your iPod starts playing and time that it stops playing. Check frequently to ensure your device is still active. Try to be as accurate as possible when determining when the battery becomes depleted.

10
Step Ten
Compare battery life span to your iPod's manual. If your estimated life span is considerably shorter than expected, the battery may need to be replaced.

How to Troubleshoot an iPod Nano

Introduction
You can troubleshoot an iPod nano if you are having problems getting the portable music player to do what it was designed to do: play music. The following steps start with the nano playing music while seated in the Dock and move on to problems that may be experienced when you use the iPod nano on its own.

Instructions
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Things You'll Need
iPod nano
Steps

1
Step One
Seat the iPod nano properly in the Dock. A firm connection is needed for the iPod nano to transmit its data to the external speakers.

2
Step Two
Check the external speaker connection when you are running the iPod nano from the Dock. When the unit is not playing, the sound may not be reaching the speakers. Also make sure the external speakers are powered up.

3
Step Three
Press the “Play/Pause” button to disable the pause setting. It is very easy to accidentally hit pause without realizing it.

4
Step Four
Look at the volume level. If it is too low, turn it up. The volume control may have had a lock set, which limits how loud you can turn up the volume on the iPod nano.

5
Step Five
Press the headphone jack firmly in the connector. A loose connection here can interfere with the transmission of sound.

6
Step Six
Make sure the “Hold” switch is not set to the ”Hold” setting. The “Hold” button prevents you or anyone else from using the controls of the iPod nano.

7
Step Seven
Check the song formatting. iPod nano supports AAC, Apple Lossless, MP3, WAV, AA and AIFF formats.

*Follow the 5 R’s to clear up problems with synchronization and performance. Reset, retry, restart, reinstall and restore. For more information on the 5 R’s and other troubleshooting tips visit the Apple site or consult your user’s guide.
*Run the latest version of iTunes for the best performance from your iPod nano. The latest version of iTunes can be downloaded from the Apple online site.
*Try recharging your battery. Sometimes, if the charge is very low, the screen will not power up. Dock the nano and allow about four hours for a full charge cycle.
*Restoring the iPod nano is a last resort troubleshooting option, as it erases all of the user-created information on the iPod nano and returns all of the settings to their factory condition.

How to Download iJailbreak for the iPod Touch

Introduction
Following in the footsteps of Jailbreak developed for the iPod, iJailbreak is a program that allows users to unlock the iPod Touch so that third-party applications can be loaded. Follow these steps to properly download and set up iJailbreak for the iPod Touch so you can start customizing your cool new pod.

Instructions
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Steps

1
Step One
Make sure you have the system requirements. The iJailbreak program is designed to work on Apple's operating system OS X Tiger running on Intel chips and PowerPC. If you don't run a computer with OS X Tiger you can find someone who does to download the program and break your iPod Touch out of digital jail.

2
Step Two
Download the application. You can download the application from Google Code. The link to the application's newest version is available from iJailbreak.com. Select and begin the download. Once the program has downloaded copy the disk image to your application folder, making sure that you're not copying the application itself since the two share a single icon.

3
Step Three
Run the application. To make sure the iJailbreak application downloaded correctly you should quit iTunes, if it's open, and run iJailbreak. Follow the subsequent instructions and head to the web address designated by the application to continue the process.

4
Step Four
Connect your iPod Touch. Continue on with the process to make sure that the program downloaded correctly and is compatible with your machine and setting. When you're prompted to connect your iPod Touch do so and then click through the instructions to begin the "jail break" process. The process should take a few minutes if everything goes correctly.

5
Step Five
Finish up. To finish the download and set up process you should follow the final, post-jail break instructions, which includes turning the iPod Touch off and then restarting it. Go through with this process and then try installing some third party applications to make sure that the process and download did what they were supposed to.

How to Buy a Touch Screen iPod

Introduction
The iPod touch screen is just one of the many versions of the iPod that are available to buy. It has a touch screen that is used to control the iPod instead of the traditional controls. While it is on the higher end of the price spectrum when it comes to iPods, the iPod touch screen is worth buying.

Instructions
Difficulty: Easy
Steps

1
Step One
Make sure you have the funding for the purchase of an iPod touch screen. The price for this gadget is in the $300.00 to $400.00 range, not including extended warranty and/or insurance.

2
Step Two
Check the gigabyte information on the iPod touch screen to see which one has the capacity you are looking for. Take into consideration if you plan on using it for music, movies or a combination of both. This particular model comes in 8 and 16 gigabytes.

3
Step Three
Go to an electronics store near you to check if they have any iPod touch screen available. It is possible that you will have to put your name on a waiting list or pre-order the iPod. With any luck, you will be able to walk out of the store with one in your hands.

4
Step Four
Read the instructions that come with the iPod before you plug it into your computer and start loading your music and movies onto it. Doing this will save you a lot of time and frustration.

5
Step Five

How to Make a Bullclip Ipod Dock | eHow.com

Introduction
You have an iPod, and you really want a dock so you can easily download all you music. But when you price the iPod dock at the Apple store, you realize you need to spend that $30 elsewhere. So, build your own dock with a bullclip and a rubber band. You can build it for less than a dollar with some office supplies. You may even already have the supplies.

Instructions
Difficulty: Easy
Things You'll Need
Extra large bulldog clip or bullclip or binder clip
Rubber band
Cable
iPod
Steps

1
Step One
Gather your materials. Locating the bullclip may be the hardest part of this project.

2
Step Two
Open the clips on the bullclip. Set it aside.

3
Step Three
Wrap the rubber band around the end of the cord that connects into the iPod. Set it back about a quarter-inch from the end of the cord. Keep the rubber band as flat as possible as you wrap it around the plug. The rubber band provides a cushion that protects the cord from any damage from the bullclip.

4
Step Four
Squeeze the bullclip open. Gently insert the end of the iPod cord with the rubber band wrapped around it into the open bullclip. Carefully release pressure on the bullclip. Make sure the rubber band bears the pressure from the bullclip. If the bullclip is touching the cord, rewrap the rubber band.

5
Step Five
Thread the cord out of the side of the bullclip. Plug it into an available USB port.

6
Step Six
Attach your iPod to your new dock. Set the iPod and its dock down on your desk. The square metal part of the bullclip should be in full contact with the desk. You may need to move one or both of the bullclip's clips to adjust your view of the iPod screen. If the bullclip doesn't support the weight of your iPod, try a larger bullclip.

Former Apple Designer Creates Sound Machine iPhone Dock

In Audio Jibe they are preparing a base for iPhone, of name Sound Machine, that it has enamored to us at first sight. However, between the people in charge of its creation we found Robert Brunner, industrial designer head in Apple from 1989 to 1996, where the PowerBook created, and founder of Ammunition Group, the design company/signature with which it tries to take the electronics of design to a new level.

The Audio Jibe Sound Machine is the first product that the Californian company/signature will send at the beginning of 2008. Shortly after they will accompany earpieces with cancellation by noise that will use, like this base for iPhone, the principle of tape loudspeakers which already we saw in the loudspeakers Sunfire CRM-2 Cinema Ribbon, and a system of cinema in house with flat television set.

In order to equip the loudspeakers Sound Machine with the quality of sound that deserves best iPod, iPhone, in Audio Jibe has asked for the aid of Menlo Scientific, specialists of the sound with 25 years of experience in their salary and that have spilled all their knowledge are these demanding loudspeakers, whose secrets are not within reach of many.

In the Audio Jibe Sound Machine also we will have free hands Bluetooth, an exit to earpieces, a port USB to synchronize iPhone with the computer and an entrance of audio aid to connect other digital reproducers.

On the price, the power of the loudspeakers, the exact date of sale and other smaller details of the Audio Jibe Sound Machine so far nothing is known. Only we have left to wait for and to say so that in CES 2008 of Fertile valleys they show it in all his splendor.

Update: In BusineesWeek they said that also it has reproducer of DVD and radio by Internet. Where it is the groove for the DVD? Sim embargo, the radio by Internet could have it if it has WiFi or an Ethernet pin that we do not see in the photography.

How to Use the Equalizer on an iPod

Introduction
You use the equalizer on an iPod to alter the sound as heard from the earphones. The equalizer increases the volume of narrow bandwidths of the music, which allows for tight control over the sonic picture emerging from the earphones. The equalizer settings on an iPod are almost identical to the presets available through iTunes, so if you can use iTunes, you can use an equalizer on an iPod.

Instructions
Difficulty: Easy
Things You'll Need
iPod
Steps

1
Step One
Pull up the main menu on the iPod. Do this either by tapping on the center button two times or by turning the iPod on.

2
Step Two
Choose “Settings” from the menu. This gives you a list of options which allow you to change and alter how your iPod performs.

3
Step Three
Use the click wheel and center button to select “EQ.” Doing so will pull up a menu of EQ presets, from “Acoustic” to “Rock.” Each preset alters the sound in a particular way.

4
Step Four
Try a couple of different presets to get the sound just the way you like. The "Acoustic” preset, for example, does not cut any of the frequency ranges, but it does provide a gentle boost to the low and upper midrange frequencies.

5
Step Five
Compare the sound using the same song using a different preset. For example, the same song played with "Pop” would have more midrange punch, while the high and low end would be rolled back. This EQ preset is good for emphasizing a vocal performance.

Overall Tips & Warnings
*Different presets are good for highlighting different aspects of a musical performance. An EQ preset that provides a midrange boost will tend to bring out a song’s vocal parts and downplay the drums. A preset with more of a bass boost, such as hip-hop, emphasizes the bass and drum line.
*Install the latest versions of iTunes on your computer and make sure the operating software is up to date on your iPod to get the best sound from your iPod.
*If you created a custom equalization preset in iTunes, you will need to shut the EQ off on your iPod in order to use the iTunes EQ preset.
*Using the EQ presets drains more power from your iPod’s battery.
